Such a complicated dude.

Stay warm with us this Carnival season!

Hey y’all! As Fredy already let you guys know, the perfect shirts for your Mardi Gras wardrobe have arrived!

The following designs arrived at the Mall of Louisiana shop today:

Carnival Season Shirts

The King Cake design is printed on a grass green tee and reads: Try a delicious King Cake- There’s a little Jesus in every one!

On the pretty purple shirt, you may recognize the wonderful Marie Antoinette holding a platter of king cake. The text reads: Let Them Eat King Cake!

On the yellow shirt, we have the Mardi Gras Flag.

And, finally, a Royal Crown is printed in purple on a grass green tee.

That Royal Crown is pretty awesome, eh? WELL! Lucky for you, we also have it printed on a grass green scarf. It’s soft and super comfy!

Never really sure how to wear an awesome scarf like that? I’m going to show you a few things you can do with it, so don’t you worry!

Royal Crown Scarf

Above is my personal favorite way to tie a scarf. This is called the double loop-n-through. It’s really simple to do:

1. Double the scarf by folding it to make the two ends meet.

2. Hold it behind your neck with the two ends to one side of you and the “loop” to the other side.

3. Pull one of the scarf ends through the loop (it’s best to pull the blank end).

4. Twist the loop once like you would do to a ponytail after you pull the hair through.

5. Pull the remaining end of the scarf through (the one with the crown on it).

This will make a cool knot look up top. Just play around with it and tighten it to your liking!

Another easy and cute way to wear your scarf is called the regular loop-n-through. This is an easier, simpler version of the one above. Instead of pulling just one section of the scarf through the loop, pull both ends through the loop. Viola! You’re done! Just play around with it until you are comfortable with how it looks.

A third way to tie your scarf, and my final suggestion, it to do a basic knot.
1. To do this, just put the scarf around your neck to where both ends hang on your chest.
Since our scarves are a lot longer than most, you may want to double it to do this one too.
2. Once the ends are in front of you, grab them together with one hand.
3. With your free hand, wrap the ends around your hand. Start on the back of your hand and go to the palm. Once you return to the back of your hand with the scarf, pull the scarf ends under the part of the scarf that’s wrapped to the back of your hand.
4. That’s it! Just pull it as tight as you would like and you  have yourself a knot!

Hope these tips are useful to you! You can easily find tutorials online if you want to try something more challenging.

Happy Mardi Gras!

Mardi Gras 2012

Well folks football season is officially over, and it’s time to move on. This is a difficult task, I understand trust me. Now we can officially have our eyes set on Mardi Gras! It’s time to get that king cake and argue over who got the baby! Parades will be rolling soon and it’s time for a good old fashion street party. Living here my whole life, here are a few of my absolute favorite things about carnival season:

  • KING CAKE
  • PARADES
  • GATHERING WITH LOVED ONES
  • POPEYES CHICKEN (TASTES BETTER DURING CARNIVAL)

I’m sure folks have already decorated for Mardi Gras, but is your wardrobe ready? If not we have you covered! These carnival tees are available at our Magazine St. shop!

Spice up carnival season with these!

Happy 5th Birthday, Storyville!

Victor Harvey scares away customers at the original shop on Chimes Street, January 2007

Yesterday, Storyville quietly celebrated its fifth birthday. Five years ago, on a cold and overcast day on Chimes Street in Baton Rouge, Storyville opened its doors for the first time. Today, we have five locations in four cities, and there is still so much more that we want to do.

To celebrate this momentous occasion, we’ll be having a year-long celebration. Throughout 2012, we’ll be announcing some promotions and giveaways, and even BIGGER – a brand-new website. Shortly after that, we’ll be launching some design contests for all of you Storyville designer wannabes. Got a tee shirt idea and think it would be a hit in our shops? All you’ll have to do is enter one of our contests, and you can get cash moolah for your brilliant design.

Although we didn’t throw ourselves a big party for turning five, we want to stretch this thing out all year. Stay tuned for all of the exciting things we’re going to roll out! In the meantime, enjoy this photo gallery of some of our signs over the years.

Farewell to Chimes Street

Josh scrapes off all that remains of Storyville on Chimes Street

On a rainy New Year’s Eve, Josh and I drove to Baton Rouge to pack what was left of 236 W. Chimes Street, the original Storyville. We met in that very shop, so to hand back the keys was bittersweet. We took some time to walk down to Highland Coffees, just as we used to do, and reflect on the past five years.

We made the decision to close the Chimes Street shop last April, as a result of decreased foot traffic and a changing neighborhood. Chimes Street used to be home to a mix of restaurants and retail, but as we’ve seen on other college campuses, food is king.

We don’t view closing Chimes as a failure. Businesses evolve and, if you’re fortunate like we are, they become more successful. We are so grateful for the launching pad that Chimes Street and the entire LSU community provided us. Because of Chimes Street, we now have shops in Austin, New Orleans, the Mall of Louisiana in Baton Rouge and Lakeside Mall in Metairie. And we’re better than ever.

Stay tuned for the next chapter. Josh and I have a few announcements and surprises that we plan to roll out this month and into the Spring. The next five years of Storyville are going to be even more memorable than the first.
