Mad Men at the Alamo Drafthouse

Sunday night Josh and I arrived in Austin to a rather warm house.  We had planned to cook a little dinner and watch a movie, but we hadn’t taken into account how hot the house would be after leaving the a/c off for quite a few days.  And when you ventured upstairs — ¡ay caramba!

I'm trying to demonstrate how hot it was by this tumbleweed.

So Josh’s idea was to go see a movie at the Alamo Drafthouse on South Lamar.  It would get us out of the house just long enough for the house to reach a reasonable temperature.

I perused the listings and found, much to my surprise, that the Alamo offered Sunday night viewings of Mad Men.  My spirits lifted.  I was heartbroken that we wouldn’t be able to watch Mad Men until Friday, when we once again have access to our DVR.

Not only do they show this week’s episode (with no commercials), they show last week’s too, just in case you need a refresher.  I was happy to watch last week’s episode again because I caught so many things I had missed the first go round.

Two of the best things about watching Mad Men at the Alamo are, of course, the beer, and being able to watch Pete Campbell do this on the big screen:

So if you’re in the Austin area and are a fan of Mad Men, I highly recommend checking out the Sunday night viewing at the Alamo.  Being surrounded by Mad Men fans makes the funny moments even funnier, and the shocking! moments even more shocking.  And NO ONE SPEAKS during the showing, so you really don’t have to worry about that.
